The installation quality of generator sets directly determines long term operational reliability and service life of equipment. It also serves as a critical inspection item for compliance acceptance, local safety supervision and environmental reviews in overseas projects. For on site construction of diesel and gas generator sets, it is mandatory to comply with the international generator set safety standard ISO 8528 13, as well as local codes and standards of project host regions (including NFPA, IEC and EU EN standards). Key procedures shall be controlled throughout the whole process to proactively avoid installation defects, compliance failures and subsequent equipment failures.
1. Site Selection Specifications
Generator rooms or unit installation sites shall preferably be well ventilated, dry and flat, and kept away from flammable and explosive materials. Installation in low lying flood prone, highly humid enclosed or over heated sun exposed areas is prohibited.
Sufficient air intake and air outlet cross sections shall be reserved for indoor generator rooms to ensure heat dissipation and ventilation. Outdoor installed units shall be fully equipped with rain proof, sun proof and dust proof protections. Standardized maintenance access shall be reserved, and reasonable distances shall be maintained from residential areas and precision equipment zones to mitigate environmental impacts caused by noise and exhaust emissions.
Special Requirements for Gas Fired Generator Sets: Gas generator rooms must be fitted with explosion proof ventilation systems and gas leakage detection and alarm devices to prevent accumulation of combustible gases, in compliance with EN 60079 / IEC 60079 explosion proof safety requirements. Local fire protection and gas safety regulations shall be checked; in some countries, interlock between ventilation equipment and leakage alarms is mandatory.
2. Equipment Foundation & Mounting Specifications
Units shall be mounted on reinforced concrete load bearing foundations with flatness tolerance limited to ±5 mm. Unit feet shall be fully attached to the foundation without suspension or looseness. Genuine anti vibration pads and shock absorbers shall be installed to reduce operational vibration and structure borne noise transmission.
For high power units, foundation load bearing calculation and reinforcement shall be performed based on total unit weight (including fuel oil, coolant and dynamic vibration loads), so as to prevent foundation settlement, unit tilt and abnormal component wear during long term operation. For zones with high seismic risks, seismic anchoring measures shall be added in accordance with local seismic codes.

3. Piping Installation Specifications
00001. Fuel Oil Piping: Use oil resistant and corrosion resistant pipes. All joints shall be reliably sealed. Pipes shall be neatly routed and firmly fixed without kinks or pipe wall damage to eliminate fuel leakage risks. Fuel oil piping installation shall comply with local fuel storage safety codes (e.g. NFPA 30). Secondary containment spill barriers shall be provided where necessary.
00002. Gas Piping for Gas Fired Units: Complete full air tightness testing for gas inlet pipes. Install valves, filters and pressure regulating components as specified. Unauthorized pipe extension or modification is strictly forbidden to eliminate gas leakage hazards.
00003. Exhaust Piping: Keep exhaust piping unobstructed. Set proper drainage slopes to prevent rain water backflow into the unit. Apply thermal insulation and anti corrosion treatment for outdoor exhaust pipes. Locate exhaust outlets away from combustibles and building windows.
Leakage inspection shall be carried out for every pipe joint upon completion of piping installation. Commissioning and trial run can only be started after passing inspection.

4. Electrical Wiring Safety Specifications
Electrical work shall be performed by certified professional electricians strictly following OEM drawings and international electrical standards such as IEC 60364. Properly distinguish phase conductors, neutral conductors and protective earth conductors. Ensure tight connections and intact insulation to avoid loose contacts, short circuits and electric leakage risks.
Reliable protective earthing shall be implemented for generator units. Earthing / equipotential bonding parameters shall conform to regional codes (EU CE, US NEC, IEEE standards vary from region to region). Control cabinets and cables shall be neatly arranged with clear marking. Random wiring and over loaded connections are prohibited. Voltage stabilization and filtering devices can be added as required for precision loads such as data centers and telecommunication sites.
Reminder: For overseas projects, always verify the interlock logic of ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) to prevent unauthorized parallel connection between generator sets and public grid, thus avoiding severe safety accidents.
5. Heat Dissipation, Exhaust & Environmental Compliance
Reserve adequate heat dissipation space inside generator rooms and keep radiator outlets unobstructed. For high ambient temperature working conditions, forced ventilation cooling equipment can be added. The exhaust system shall discharge exhaust gas effectively outdoors to prevent indoor exhaust backflow.
Fit exhaust after treatment devices for diesel generator sets as applicable and guarantee sufficient combustion for gas fired units. Emission performance shall satisfy local regulatory requirements including EU Stage V, US EPA Tier series standards and local environmental limits of respective countries, to ensure smooth local environmental protection acceptance.
